GPSR Online Listing Requirements for EU Sellers
Build the safety-information section of an EU-facing product offer from verified product records instead of copying incomplete marketplace text.
The quick answer
For online or other distance-sale offers, GPSR Article 19 requires specified product-safety information to be shown clearly and visibly in the offer. The information set includes manufacturer contact details, responsible-person details where applicable, product identification including an image, and applicable warnings or safety information.
The legal source is Regulation (EU) 2023/988, especially Article 19. Product-specific EU legislation may add further duties.
Start with verified manufacturer details
Use the manufacturer's name, registered trade name or registered trademark and the postal and electronic address at which the manufacturer can be contacted. Treat this as traceability data, not marketing copy.
If marketplace text conflicts with the product record, supplier documentation or current manufacturer contact details, resolve the discrepancy before publishing.
Add the EU responsible person when applicable
Where the manufacturer is not established in the Union, Article 19 requires the online offer to show the name plus postal and electronic address of the relevant responsible person. Article 16 also requires an EU-established economic operator for products covered by the Regulation.
Do not invent or infer a responsible person from a return address. Use verified economic-operator information for the actual product.
Make the product identifiable
The offer needs information that lets the product be identified, including an image, the product type and another product identifier. Depending on the product this may be a model, SKU, batch reference, serial number or another traceable identifier.
Keep identifiers consistent between the online offer and the records you use to manage the product.
Show applicable warnings and safety information
Applicable warning or safety information required on the product, packaging or accompanying document also belongs in the online offer under Article 19. The language must be one consumers can easily understand as determined by the Member State where the product is made available.
Use verified product-specific wording. A generic warning invented for SEO or to fill an empty field can create a false sense of safety.
A practical publishing workflow
- Identify the exact product and model.
- Verify manufacturer contact details.
- Determine whether an EU responsible person must be shown and verify that record.
- Choose a consistent product identifier and product image.
- Collect the warnings and safety information that actually apply.
- Check destination-market language and product-specific EU rules.
- Generate the listing block and compare it with the source records before publishing.
